One More Important Action for This Week

Hi everyone! I had to pop in once again with a really important action that you should take right away. Republicans in the House are trying to force a vote on their new healthcare bill by the end of this week. Use the link below to call your representative TODAY and tell them to vote NO:

Two Important Actions for This Week

Hi all:

I just wanted to pop in to let you know that I will probably be absent for most of this week. I've been sick off and on and struggling with allergies and a few other issues. Nothing too serious, but it means I'll be spending most of my time lying down. So, I'll give you two important actions to focus on over the next few days...

Healthcare

Republicans in the House are working on a new "repeal and replace" healthcare bill that's even worse than the last one. Here's how you can help stop it.
Russia

Let your members of Congress (MoC) know that you haven't forgotten about 45's and his administrations ties to Russia.

Special Elections - Rob Quist

Montana has one Congressional district for the whole state. On May 25th, a special election will be held to replace their representative, Ryan Zinke, who was recently appointed Secretary of Interior. Special elections are great opportunities to get more progressive leaders in Congress and reduce the Republican majority before 2018.

Democratic candidate Rob Quist is a community leader, business owner, and popular singer/songwriter who was recently endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders. Democracy for America has developed an online phone bank tool that you can use to make calls from anywhere in the country and help get the word out about Quist. They're holding two virtual phone bank events this weekend. Training and materials will be provided. Sign up to make calls here:

Immigration - Border Patrol

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is currently examining procedures to investigate travelers to the U.S. In a congressional hearing, DHS Secretary John Kelly said that they’re even considering forcing some travelers to provide their passwords to social media accounts as a condition to enter the U.S.

Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents have already been forcing travelers entering the country to hand over the passwords to their cellphones and other devices without a warrant. Senator Ron Wyden has introduced the Data at the Border Act, which would prohibit law enforcement from barring entry to Americans who refuse to provide their passwords at the border and explicitly require a search warrant before any phone owned by a U.S. citizen is searched. Here's how you can help stop CBP and DHS from violating travelers' privacy.
LGBTQ+ Issues
  • Mark Green: 45's nominee for Secretary of the Army, Senator Mark Green, has said that he believes that being transgender is "a disease"; as a physician, he argued that he has a right to deny women birth control because of his religious beliefs; he filed state legislation that would threaten funding for sanctuary cities; and he wants to block Syrian refugees from being welcomed in Tennessee. Sign the following petition to oppose his confirmation:
    http://action.winwithoutwar.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=21849
  • 2020 Census: Recently, 45's administration removed questions related to sexuality and gender identity from the 2020 U.S. Census. Many LGBTQ+ Americans face higher rates of homelessness, loss of employment, and income inequality. If we don't have data on these challenges, we can't effectively tackle them. Sign the following petition to tell 45's administration not to erase the LGBTQ+ community from the 2020 Census:

UPDATE - Special Elections

Jon Ossoff, Georgia
Today, despite "technical problems," Democrat Jon Ossoff won over 48% of the votes in the special election for Georgia's 6th district. That's more than twice what the closest Republican contender received (19.8%). It's a huge victory for a district that's been Republican-controlled for 35 years.

However, since Ossoff didn't receive at least 50% of the votes, there will be a runoff election between him and the top Republican candidate, Karen Handel, on June 20th. Whether or not you live in Georgia, you can volunteer to help get Georgians out to vote for Ossoff in June. Sign up here:
https://electjon.com/volunteer/

Rob Quist, Montana
On May 25th, there will be a special election for Montana's only Congressional district. Democratic candidate Rob Quist is gaining popularity with his recent endorsement from Senator Bernie Sanders. This election is a great opportunity to turn Montana blue and get a progressive representative in the House.

You can help get Montanans out to vote for Quist by from anywhere in the country by making phone calls using the Democratic Coalition's National Digital Phone Bank system. Sign up here:

The Environment - Paris Climate Agreement

45's administration is currently discussing "whether to recommend [45] withdraw the United States from the Paris climate accord." This historic agreement with nearly 200 others countries would significantly reduce carbon emissions in the United States by 2025. Here's how you can help keep the U.S. in the Paris Climate Agreement.
Miscellaneous
  • Working Families Flexibility Act: Republicans in Congress have introduced the Working Families Flexibility Act, which would allow employers to delay paying any wages for overtime work for as long as 13 months. Use the following link to email your representative and tell them to oppose this bill:
    https://actionnetwork.org/letters/write-your-representative-today-dont-steal-overtime-pay-from-working-people
  • Presidential Tax Transparency Act: Senators Chris Murphy and Ron Wyden have introduced the Presidential Tax Transparency Act, which would require 45 and all future presidential nominees to release their tax returns to the public. Sign the following petition to support this bill: https://donate.chrismurphy.com/page/signup/trump-taxes
  • Affordable Care Act: After failing to "repeal and replace" the Affordable Care Act (ACA), 45 recently suggested that he and other Republicans would move to sabotage healthcare for millions of Americans by cutting off funding for the ACA's subsidies for lower income consumers. Sign the following petition to demand that Congress continue funding ACA subsidies:

URGENT: Special Elections - Jon Ossoff

The special election for the House in Georgia's 6th district is tomorrow, April 18th (today if you're reading this on Tuesday morning)! Special elections are a great way for us to get some progressive candidates in Congress before 2018.

You can help make one last push to turn this seat blue by calling Georgians in the 6th district and telling them to go out and vote for the Democratic candidate, Jon Ossoff. You don't have to live in Georgia to make calls! Use the following link to sign up for a virtual phone bank and start making calls now from wherever you are:

The Environment - Paris Climate Agreement

Under the Obama administration, the U.S. was a leader in crafting the historic Paris Climate Agreement. Now 45's administration is debating either backing out of the agreement altogether or breaking our promise to significantly reduce our carbon pollution. Here's how you can help stop them.
45's Nominees - Mark Green, Army Secretary

The Secretary of the Army is responsible for every matter that relates to the Army, including personnel. 45's pick, Mark Green, is a Tennessee state politician with a horrendous record of anti-LGBTQ positions, vocal Islamophobia, and anti-Latino racism. Here's how you can help stop him from being confirmed:
White House Visitor Logs

45's administration is blocking public access to the White House visitor logs. Now there will be no way to know who is entering the White House and with whom they are meeting. Any Russia-tied associate, corporate lobbyist, or foreign agent can visit 45 in the White House, and the public will be kept in the dark. Here's how you can help oppose this policy.
Immigration
  • Keeping Our Promises to Our Afghan Allies Act: Since 2009, the Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program has given Afghans who aided American troops in Afghanistan an avenue to seek refuge in the U.S.; however, the program does not have enough visas to accommodate the thousands of Afghan allies and their families who are seeking refuge from oppression. The Keeping Our Promises to Our Afghan Allies Act would expand the SIV program to add 2,500 additional visas. Use the following link to call the Senate Judiciary Committee to support this bill: https://5calls.org/issue/recCLKCS8HJVJdmye
  • 45's War on Immigrants: On March 16th, 45's administration requested an extra $3 billion from Congress through September, 2017, to pay for his anti-immigrant agenda. He can’t implement this plan without funding. Use the following link to email your senators and urge them not to authorize any more funds for 45's war on immigrants:

Upcoming Events
  • April 20th - Debating with Climate Skeptics Webinar: On Thursday, April 20th, at 8pm ET/5pm PT, the Environmental Defense Fund is hosting a webinar where climate scientists will review some of the most common arguments used by climate skeptics and how to counter them. Miscellaneous
  • 45's Conflicts of Interest: Use the following link to call your members of Congress and urge them to support the Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act of 2017, which would require the president to divulge his tax returns and divest financial assets that create a conflict of interest:
    https://www.theloyalopposition.net/daily-ctas/daily-call-action-april-17th-2017/
  • Student Loans: Last week, Betsy DeVos and 45 rolled back President Obama’s rules for student loan companies, which were meant to protect more than 40 million borrowers with student loan debt. Sign the following petition to tell DeVos to help students, not debt collectors: http://www.pattymurray.com/act/stand-with-students
  • Gerrymandering: For far too long, gerrymandered districts have rigged the map and silenced voters. Republican-drawn districts lock Democrats out of office and create a system where politicians pick their voters instead of voters picking their politicians. Sign the following petition to tell Congress to end gerrymandering:
    https://petitions.signforgood.com/endgerrymandering/
  • Wall Street Tax Giveaways: Under 45's tax plan, the six biggest banks in the country would get a $25 billion break on the taxes they owe on offshore profits, and hedge fund managers and Wall Street CEOs would see a huge break on their tax rates. Sign the following petition to tell Congress that Wall Street banks and billionaires should pay their taxes like the rest of us:

Nightly Actions for Friday, April 14th, 2017

Just a short one tonight. Don't forget, I'm now taking weekends off, so you won't hear from me until Monday night. As always, you can check out my fellow members of the Action Alliance while you wait: https://www.actionalliance.co/
  • Education: Earlier this week, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos issued a memorandum rescinding Obama-era regulations that safeguarded student loan borrowers by simplifying the repayment process, assisting with debt management, and providing more oversight of loan-servicing contractors. With these regulations no longer in place, student loan defaults are expected to increase in the coming years. Use the following link to call DeVos and urge her to reconsider: https://5calls.org/issue/rec5bUzQuyLoG2YWA
  • Special Elections: The Democratic National Committee (DNC) refused to support James Thompson's campaign for the recent special election in Kansas. This is part of a growing trend of the DNC supporting only centrist candidates with opportunities to raise funds from corporate donors. Use the following link to send a postcard to the DNC and tell them that they need to get serious about the Resistance and support Democratic candidates in all special elections:
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OzV4EQAwN5qX47jad0WBQi-G1ko3QKBugRxHTaqY1yo/
  • 45's Tax Returns: Breaking with every other presidential candidate in the past 40 years, 45 continues to hide his tax returns from the American public. Proposed legislation called the Presidential Tax Transparency Act would require any sitting president to release their most recent three years of tax returns publicly. Sign the following petition to support this legislation: http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/trump-taxes/
  • Public Lands: While 45 is slashing funding for our public lands, House Natural Resources Chairman Rob Bishop is pushing to sell off public lands and gut the Antiquities Act to block the creation of future national monuments. 45 and Bishop are even threatening to roll back existing monuments, like Bears Ears National Monument in Utah. Sign the following petition to tell Congress to protect our national parks and public lands:
    https://secure3.convio.net/lcv/site/Advocacy;jsessionid=00000000.app313b?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3810
  • Sean Spicer: This week, 45's chief spokesperson, Sean Spicer, said that Hitler "didn't even sink to using chemical weapons." Hitler murdered more than 11 million people, including 6 million Jews, many in chemical gas chambers. Sign the following petition to tell 45 that Spicer needs to be fired: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/spicer-must-go

Nightly Actions for Thursday, April 13th, 2017

45's Tax Returns

Members of Congress (MoC) have supported a variety of different initiatives to obtain 45's tax returns, which he has refused to release, unlike any president in 50 years. Republicans have so far rejected all attempts to obtain 45's taxes. Questions about 45's conflicts of interest and ties two Russia are mounting, and his refusal to release the returns (after saying he would if he ran for president) is strong evidence that he is hiding something important and damaging. Here's how you can help get them released.
45's Budget

45's proposed budget for 2017 designates $1.5 billion to build more detention centers, hire hundreds more ICE agents and border patrol officers, and expand efforts to remove undocumented immigrants. It would also gouge the State Department, EPA, Department of Education, and other vital programs and services. Here's how you can help stop it.
Healthcare

Yesterday, in an attempt to force Democrats to negotiate away our healthcare, 45 said that he may withhold payments that lower deductibles and co-payments for people who get their insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This move would jeopardize access to healthcare for millions of people. Here's how you can help stop him.
The Environment
  • Climate Change: The Heartland Institute, a group funded by fossil fuel interests, is sending 25,000 climate textbooks to science teachers. Their textbook states that there’s "deep disagreement among scientists" about climate change and that decades of scientific evidence on warming temperatures are "unreliable." Sign this petition to tell state Departments of Education to oppose teaching climate denial in our classrooms:
    https://secure.314action.org/page/s/add-your-name-to-oppose-climate-denial
  • NAFTA: 45 has ordered a review of all U.S. trade deals, including the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This agreement has empowered corporate polluters to challenge environmental protections, boosted destructive mining in Mexico, and contributed to the rise of Canada's toxic tar sands industry. Now 45's corporate-driven trade agenda threatens to make matters even worse. Use the following link to email your MoC and tell them that renegotiating NAFTA should benefit people and the planet, not corporate polluters:
    https://sierra.secure.force.com/actions/National?actionId=AR0066474
  • Dakota Access Pipeline: Two senators have alleged that the company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) didn't have proper permission to build under Lake Oahe, a tributary of the Missouri River. It's not known if oil can be safely transported through the DAPL because the Army Corps of Engineers may have issued a permit before checking to make sure that everything was OK. Sign this petition to tell these senators to lead a movement in Congress to stop oil transportation through the DAPL: https://actionsprout.io/90A9D0
  • Keystone XL Pipeline: 45's administration has issued the final federal permits for the Keystone XL Pipeline, but TransCanada still needs a permit to build part of the pipeline through Nebraska. The Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC) is currently accepting comments from the public. Use the following link to submit a comment to tell the Nebraska PSC to stop the Keystone XL: https://act.credoaction.com/sign/nebraska_keystone_xl
Miscellaneous
  • Constitutional Convention: Article 5 of the Constitution allows for a convention to be called by 34 States. 22 states have already passed resolutions for it, with an additional five states having already passed through one house. They plan to push the government into balancing their budget, but once convened, there are no limitations on which Constitutional issues they could address. It would basically put the whole Constitution up for grabs. If you live in one of the states listed at the following link, use the information provided to call your state senators and representatives and tell them that you oppose a Constitutional convention:
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1STJpmhlSxYIhuuqNiS81980OSMaINcDlXdHZKIRWypc/
  • Online Privacy: Earlier this month, 45 and Congressional Republicans rolled back Internet privacy rules and cleared the way for companies to sell your web browsing history. That means your private information can be exploited by companies however they see fit. Sign the following petition to tell Congress that your online privacy is not for sale:
    https://petitions.signforgood.com/defendourprivacy
  • Immigration: 45's draft executive order would make it policy to deport families for using programs "determined in any way on the basis of income, resources, or financial need," which could mean no free and reduced-price school lunches, no food stamps for hungry families, and no prenatal care for low-income moms. Sign the following petition to oppose this order:
    https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/dont-let-trump-take-food-stamps-and-school-lunch-from-immigrant-kids
  • Civil Rights: A group including what Slate called "the biggest names in voter suppression" are calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to abandon the Justice Department’s mission to protect voting and civil rights and make hiring and firing decisions in the Civil Rights Division based on on political affiliation instead of merit. Sign the following petition to tell Sessions not to put politics before our rights:

Phone Calls
  • Syria: Last week, 45 launched 59 missiles at Syria without first getting the approval of Congress. Use the following link to call your members of Congress (MoC) and tell them that you are against further engagement in Syria and other countries that 45 has threatened:

  • ICE Raids: Tomorrow morning, faith leaders are planning a march with immigrant families in Los Angeles. Recent raids have ripped families apart. Romulo Avelica-Gonzalez is a father who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in front of his daughter on the way to school. Tomorrow, April 13th, call David Marin, ICE LA Field Office Director, at 213-830-5931, and use the script below from the The Revolutionary Love Project to ask him to provide relief for Romulo and all immigrant families under the threat of deportation:

My name is ____. I'm calling to ask you to release Romulo Avelica and grant him a stay of deportation.I urge you to exercise prosecutorial discretion to provide relief for him and all local immigrant families under the threat of deportation based on DHS' new rules. Given the circumstances of their arrests, I ask that you treat them with dignity and respect and release them as soon as possible. We need them back. Thank you.
  • Special Elections: On May 25th, a special election will be held for Montana's only congressional district to replace Ryan Zinke, who was recently appointed Secretary of the Interior. A Democratic win would turn Montana blue and give the Resistance more of an edge over the Republicans in Congress ahead of the 2018 general elections. You can help spread the word about the Democratic candidate, Rob Quist, by joining a virtual phone bank. Democracy for America is holding two phone banks on Saturday, April 15th. Training and tools will be provided. Sign up here: https://www2.democracyforamerica.com/events/dfadialer/quist
Emails
  • LGBTQ+ Issues: Police in the Russian republic of Chechnya have been rounding up dozens of men on the suspicion of being gay. These men have been placed in detention, some have been tortured, and at least three are reported to have been killed. Use the following link to email 45 and his administration and urge them to take immediate action against these atrocities: https://act.hrc.org/page/7991/action/1
  • 45's Budget: 45's proposed budget requests an additional $3 billion for immigration enforcement and border militarization. The U.S. system of mass detention and deportation already violates basic human rights and dignity, devastates families, causes thousands of deaths, and terrorizes communities on the border and across the country. Congress must pass a funding bill before April 28th. Use the following link to email your MoC and urge them to fund human needs instead: https://www.afsc.org/action/stop-expansion-immigration-enforcement-and-border-militarization
Social Media
  • 45's Tax Returns: For five consecutive weeks, Democrats offered a resolution on the House floor regarding 45's tax returns; Republicans blocked all of them. 45 still refuses release his tax returns. Until we see his returns, we cannot be certain that foreign governments don’t have leverage over him that can be used to influence American policy. Join the Tax Day Thunderclap to demand that your MoC co-sponsor the Presidential Tax Transparency Act, which would require 45 to make his tax returns public. You can join through Facebook, Twitter, and/or Tumblr. Sign up here: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/55397-demand-trump-s-tax-returns
Petitions
  • Education: Last week, Representative Keith Ellison, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, and other MoC introduced the College for All Act, which eliminates tuition at public universities for families earning up to $125,000 per year, makes community college free for everyone, and provides student loan debt relief by cutting interest rates in half. Sign this petition to become a citizen co-sponsor of this bill: http://mn.keithellison.org/page/s/171204
  • Border Patrol: Growing numbers of U.S. citizens are being forced by border agents to give up their passwords, cellphones, and laptops to be searched at the border–all without a warrant. Refuse and they could be detained indefinitely. A bill introduced by Sens. Ron Wyden and Rand Paul, the Protecting Data at the Border Act, would prohibit border agents from searching your phone or laptop unless they get a warrant first, and it would strictly forbid them from collecting American citizens’ social media passwords. Sign this petition to support this bill:
    http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/wyden-border-searches/
  • Planned Parenthood: Last month, Vice President Mike Pence went from attending a "Women’s Empowerment Panel" at the White House to casting a tie-breaking vote in the Senate that will let states defund Planned Parenthood. Republicans are going to great lengths to take access to necessary healthcare away from millions. Sign this petition to support Planned Parenthood: https://petitions.signforgood.com/keg-pp
  • Social Security: 45's new budget director has promised to gut Social Security and raise the retirement age to 70. Sign this petition to support Social Security:

  • Russia: A Russian state-controlled oil company called Rosneft, which is run by cronies of Vladimir Putin, may acquire CITGO, which operates 48 oil terminals, nine pipelines, and three refineries within the U.S. and has more than 6,000 franchise locations across the country. In light of Russia’s cyber attacks against America during the 2016 election, allowing a company with close ties to Putin to control major components of America's energy infrastructure is a major national security risk. • Now through April 21st - Congressional Recess: Congress is currently on recess until April 21st. This is a "state work period," when your members of Congress (MoC) are required to be in their home states. It's the perfect time to let them you know what you think about how they've been doing what you think they should be doing.

To help you get started, the Town Hall Project and Center for American Progress Action Fund have come together to bring you Resistance Near Me, a central hub for progressive local resistance actions, including events, rallies, town halls, protests, and more. Check it out here:

  • April 12th - Virtual Phone Bank to Stop Voter Suppression in New Hampshire: Republicans in the New Hampshire state Senate passed Senate Bill 3, which would create onerous requirements for new voters to prove their eligibility to vote in ways that many eligible voters can't actually meet. In a nutshell, new voters need costly documentation to demonstrate that they live in the state beyond simply providing evidence of their homes.

Tomorrow, April 12th, at 4:30pm ET/1:30pm PT, People for the American Way is holding a virtual phone bank to call voters in NH and tell them that this bill can still be stopped. Online training for the phone bank will begin at 4pm ET/1pm PT. Register here:

The Environment - Climate Change

Recently, the Energy Department's climate office banned the use of the phrase "climate change." The same day, 45 signed an executive order to reverse most of President Obama's climate regulatory initiatives. Scott Pruitt, newly-elected head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has stated publicly that he does not believe that human activity is a contributing factor in climate change. Clearly, 45's administration is so hell bent on ignoring the dangers of climate change that they don't even want to talk about it. Here's how you can help stop their plans:
  • Email 45 and Secretary Zinke. Use the following link to send an email to 45 and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and tell them that you oppose their rollbacks of President Obama's climate protections: https://sierra.secure.force.com/actions/National?actionId=AR0075620
  • Sign a petition. The attorneys general of nine states have filed a federal lawsuit against 45 for "illegally blocking cost-saving, pollution-cutting energy efficiency standards." Sign this petition to ask the attorneys general from all 50 states to join the lawsuit:
    https://actionsprout.io/36627C
Miscellaneous
  • Fiduciary Rule: The Department of Labor (DOL), at the direction of 45, is "examining" an Obama-era rule that protects working people from unscrupulous financial advisers. If this critical protection is rolled back, financial advisers will be able to continue providing conflicted advice that increases their commissions at the expense of consumers. The DOL is currently accepting public comments on the fiduciary rule. Submit a comment supporting it here:
    http://www.epi.org/action/fiduciary/
  • Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act: Both the House and Senate are currently considering The Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act, which would require the president to divest all financial assets that create a conflict of interest, something that 45 has refused to do (unlike all previous presidents). Use the following link to call your MoC and urge them to support this legislation: https://www.theloyalopposition.net/daily-ctas/daily-call-action-april-11th-2017/
  • LGBTQ+ Issues: After HB2 became law in North Carolina last year, the NCAA pulled championship games from the state for failing to "assure a safe, healthy, discrimination-free atmosphere for all." NC's new law, HB 142, still singles out transgender people and bars local governments from protecting LGBTQ+ people through 2020. Yet the NCAA is now allowing NC to bid to host the championship games. Use the following link to email or print a letter to NCAA President Mark Emmert and tell him not to allow the championships to go to NC:
    https://ssl.capwiz.com/aclu-action/issues/alert/?alertid=76667626
  • 45's Budget: If lawmakers fail to pass a new spending bill before April 28th, our government will shut down. Yet Republicans are waiting until the last minute to make their plan public. 45's 2018 budget proposal guts spending for Meals on Wheels, cancer research and education, and many other essential programs. Congress can reject his proposal for next year by passing a clean spending bill for the rest of this year. Use the following link to email your MoC and tell them to pass a clean budget for 2017 before the government shuts down:

  • Gun Violence: Yesterday morning in San Bernardino, California, a man with a history of domestic violence walked into North Park Elementary School, shot and killed his estranged wife, murdered a student, and wounded another before killing himself. There is bipartisan support in Congress for legislation that would keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers. Sign this petition to tell Congress to close the gaps in our gun laws that allow perpetrators of domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking from obtaining firearms:

  • Muslim Issues: Since the election, American Muslims have increasingly been targeted by bigotry. Mosques have been burned, people killed, and families intimidated in their neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, houses of worship, and even their own homes. Muslim Advocates has created the Communities Against Hate initiative to track and respond to hate incidents and connect survivors to a host of social and legal services. Please share this form with your friends and family so that American Muslims know where to find help when they need it: https://muslimadvocates-securedform.formstack.com/forms/communities_against_hate

Nightly Actions for Monday, April 10th, 2017

UPDATE

I want to thank all of my subscribers for bearing with me over the last two weeks. I had a lot of stuff going on with school and work (or lack thereof), and I needed some time off to address it all and catch my breath. Things have been happening very fast since the Resistance began, and it's important to take a break every now and then to fight fatigue and focus on self care. We are many, and there will always be someone there to hold the fort. If you were one of the people holding the fort while I was MIA, thank you! I'm happy to be back and ready to resist again.

If you feel like you need to take a break too, go for it! But don't give up! Check out this article for some inspiration: http://shareblue.com/dear-resistance-from-one-exhausted-yet-persistent-woman/

Scooby-dooby-doo, we've got some work to do now...

Upcoming Events

Congressional Recess
Beginning this week, Congress is taking another recess known as a "state work period," which means that your members of Congress (MoC) are required to be in their home states from April 10th to 21st. This is a great time to pay them a visit, give them a call, drop them a line, or attend a town hall (if your MoC actually holds one—I'm looking at you, Senator Toomey). Here are some resources you can use to make an impact during the recess.
Marches
This is a big month for Resistance Marches! We have three huge, nationwide marches coming up in the next few weeks. Information for each of them is below.
  • April 15th - Tax March: On Saturday, April 15th (Tax Day), tax marches will be held all over the country to demand that 45 release his tax returns. Learn more and find a march near you here: http://taxmarch.org/
  • April 22nd - March for Science: On Saturday, April 22nd (Earth Day), science marches will be held all over the world to support science, scientists, and evidence-based policymaking. You can even join the march from home by watching a livestream. Learn more and find a march near you here (click "register for a march" to find the virtual march option):

  • April 29th - People's Climate Movement: On Saturday, April 29th, climate marches will be held all over the country to raise awareness of climate change and demand action to protect our climate. Learn more and find a march near you here: https://peoplesclimate.org/
Syria

Last week, 45 launched 59 missiles at Syria without approval from Congress (?!). He stated that the missiles were launched in response to a chemical weapons strike that killed over 100 people, stating, "Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women, and children." He did not address the fact that he refuses to allow these same men, women, and children to seek refuge in the U.S. under his Muslim ban. Later, it was reported that Russian forces were notified in advance of the strike (surprise, surprise). Here's how you can help protect Syrian refugees and stop 45 from acting again without Congressional approval.
45's Budget

45 recently revealed his budget proposal, which wastes billions of dollars beefing up our already massive defense budget and attacking immigrants while slashing funds for things like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), public broadcasting, foreign aid, and Meals on Wheels. Here's how you can help stop it.

This Week

Hi all:

I still have a lot of stuff going on, so I'm going to have to take the rest of this week off. I just popped in to tell you to make sure you call your senators and tell them to vote NO on Neil Gorsuch and NO on the "nuclear option" that Republicans want to use to change the rules. You can find your senators here: https://www.senate.gov/senators/contact/

Thanks for your patience. I hope to be back on Monday. In the meantime, check out https://www.actionalliance.co/ for daily calls to action from my peers in the Action Alliance.

Another Night Off

Hi, subscribers!

I know I said I would be back tonight, but I got some bad news today: I lost my part time job, I need a night or two off to collect and start looking for another one. Unfortunately, blogging doesn't pay the bills.

As always, in the meantime, I recommend checking out the rest of the Action Alliance at www.actionalliance.co. Or check out a daily feed of calls to action at www.WhatDoIDoAboutTrump.com.

I should be back by Wednesday night at the latest. Thanks for understanding.
