URGENT: Trump's Nominees

Tonight, Trump announced that his Supreme Court pick is radical right-wing extremist, Neil Gorsuch. Here are some facts about Gorsuch:
  • As an attorney, Gorsuch routinely represented big businesses in class action lawsuits.
  • As a judge, he wrote a concurring opinion in Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius, the case that allowed employers to deny basic healthcare coverage to women.
  • As a member of the "Federalist Society," he believes in severely restricting the power that federal agencies have to regulate businesses.
  • Gorsuch's judicial record is hostile toward LGBT people. Through his decisions, he has promoted a vision of a society where the religious beliefs of employers can trump the law.
  • He backed politicians trying to defund Planned Parenthood, and he embraces anti-choice rhetoric.
Here are some ways you can help block Gursuch's confirmation:
  1. Call your senators. Use one of the following forms to call your senators and tell them to oppose Gorsuch:
From Weekly Actions to Resist Trump: http://www.weekly-resistance.online/
From the National Abortion Federation: http://cqrcengage.com/prochoice/app/make-a-call?4&engagementId=285133
  2. Email your senators. Use the following forms to email your senators and tell them to oppose Gorsuch:
    From Planned Parenthood: http://d.shpg.org/266706267f
From Everytown for Gun Safety: http://act.everytown.org/go/3759

    From Ultraviolet: https://act.weareultraviolet.org/sign/scotus_filibuster/
Cabinet Nominees:
  1. Get rid of Steve Bannon. This past weekend, Trump removed the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence from the National Security Council, and he replaced them with Steve Bannon. Bannon has no government, intelligence, or high-level military experience. His experience is leading a propaganda outlet, Breitbart News, which peddles nationalist and white nationalist viewpoints. Sign this petition to tell Trump that Bannon has no business in the White House: https://www.splcenter.org/stephen-bannon-has-no-business-white-house
  2. Help Chuck Schumer grow some backbone. Democratic Senate Leader, Chuck Schumer, has voted in favor of three of Trump's cabinet nominees. Use this Amazon registry to send him a gift and remind him what courage looks like: https://www.amazon.com/wedding/chuck-schumer-progressive-democrats-washington-january-2017/registry/AXMYTVVE5QQE
  3. Oppose Ajit Pai. New FCC Chairman, Ajit Pai, may destroy Net Neutrality. In his time as FCC commissioner, he voted against every common sense safeguard and for every massive merger. He's a former corporate lawyer for Verizon and aide to Jeff Sessions, whom Pai has endorsed for attorney general. Use the links below to Tweet Pai and tell him to leave our online rights alone:

Recap of Trump's unconstitutional Muslim ban from American Friends Service Committee:
  • Late Friday evening, Trump signed an executive order ending the Syrian Refugee program, suspending visas from seven majority-Muslim countries, and temporarily halting refugee resettlement.
  • On Saturday, people who were already traveling from those countries when the order was signed were detained at numerous airports, sparking large protests at those airports as well as at the White House, the Capitol, and in cities and towns across the country. Chaos and confusion erupted around the globe as hundreds, including children and grandparents, were held in detention, deported, or prevented from boarding flights to the U.S. Late Saturday night, federal judges in New York, Virginia, and Massachusetts ordered a temporary halt to the order for those who had valid visas.
  • On Sunday, large protests at airports continued, with shouts of "No Hate, No Fear, Immigrants are Welcome Here!" Meanwhile, in multiple cases Customs and Border Patrol agents refused to follow the judge's orders to allow those with valid visas to enter, even when confronted by members of Congress at Dulles airport. The administration was silent on the matter.
  • Monday it was revealed that the order was written without input from the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or the Secretary of State nominee. Instead, Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions and white nationalist Trump advisors Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon, were the primary authors. Monday evening it was announced that 100 State Department officials signed a "dissent memo" against the administration's policy.
  • Monday evening, Acting Attorney General Sally Yates announced that she would not defend the executive order, saying, “I am responsible for ensuring that the positions we take in court remain consistent with this institution’s solemn obligation to always seek justice and stand for what is right. I am not convinced that the defense of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities, nor am I convinced that the executive order is lawful.” President Trump fired her hours later, saying that she had "betrayed the Department of Justice."
Here are some ways you can help fight against the Muslim ban:
  1. Save this number. If you see or hear of anyone being detained at an airport under Trump's Muslim ban, call the ACLU hotline at (415) 621-2488.
  2. Call your Democratic Senators. Use the following link and the script below to call your senators and tell them to delay any additional cabinet nominees' votes until Trump lifts the ban, and to support Chuck Schumer's bill to repeal the ban: https://www.senate.gov/senators/contact/

My name is [your name], and I'm a constituent of [Senator]. I'm calling to ask the Senator to support Charles Schumer's call to block all remaining cabinet votes until Donald Trump lifts the travel ban on Muslim immigrants and refugees, and to support any repeal of the ban that Democrats introduce in Congress. What is [Senator]'s position on this issue?
  3. Call your members of Congress. Use one of these forms to call your members of congress and urge them to oppose the ban:
From Save the Children Action Network: http://action.savethechildrenactionnetwork.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=20744
    From Organizing for Action: https://www.ofa.us/call-to-end-the-ban/

You can also call the Captiol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and use the following script:

My name is _____, and I'm from (city/town and ZIP code). I am calling to ask the member to act strongly to protect a core value of our democracy by holding the Trump administration accountable for violating court orders to halt implementation of some aspects of his "Muslim ban." I also ask that they support legislation overturning this dangerous, ill-conceived executive order entirely.
  4. Call the White House and Congress. Use the following phone numbers and script to call the White House and your members of Congress, and tell them that you support refugee resettlement in the US:
    The White House: (866) 961-4293
    Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

I’m your constituent from [City, State], and I support refugee resettlement in the U.S. I am strongly opposed to President Trump’s announcements to stop the resettlement of refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen; pause the refugee resettlement program entirely; preference religious minorities; and reduce the number of refugees we welcome. This discriminatory announcement is morally reprehensible, runs counter to who we are as a nation, and does not reflect the welcome for refugees I see in my community every day. I urge you to do everything in your power to see this announcement reversed.
  5. Email your members of Congress. Use the forms below to email your members of congress and tell them to oppose the ban:
    From MomsRising: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/rescind_muslim_ban/
    From ACLU Action: https://ssl.capwiz.com/aclu-action/issues/alert/?alertid=75062626
  6. Postcard avalanche! Freelance writer, Winona Dimeo-Ediger, shared the following Facebook post on Sunday:

Paul Ryan and Mike Pence both spoke out against the #muslimban before it became a real thing. Now they've changed their story. This weekend my brother and I turned their hypocritical tweets into a shit ton of postcards to flood their mailboxes. People were asking for a printable template so here you go!

You can print these 4x6 postcards on cardstock or cut them out and glue to notecards. Contact info is included. Highly recommend using a red marker to add commentary. Remind these cowards that it's not too late to do the right thing. Let me know if you have any trouble downloading and FEEL FREE TO SHARE! #NoBanNoWall #Resist

Use this link to print out the templates and send your postcards: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-fZaGpeMf4jNm00SHl0YUZNdUk
  7. Tweet the White House and Trump. Tweet a selfie to the White House and Trump using the hashtag #SolidaritySelfie. Write a short note on a piece of paper, like, "Refugees Welcome," "Here to Stay," or "I stand with immigrants." Take a photo of yourself holding the paper and Tweet it to @Whitehouse and @realDonaldTrump. You use one of the suggested Tweets below:

.@realDonaldTrump & @WhiteHouse Don't stop welcoming refugees. Resettlement demonstrates the best of our values #SolidaritySelfie

.@realDonaldTrump & @WhiteHouse Keep America welcoming. Refugee resettlement is a proud American legacy with bipartisan support #SolidaritySelfie
  8. Sign petitions. Sign the following petitions opposing the ban:
    From Democracy for America: http://act.democracyforamerica.com/sign/muslim_ban_shutdown/

The Environment

Here are some ways you can help protect the environment from Trump and the Republican Congress:
  1. Federal Regulations: Republican representatives are seeking to undo two key protections: the Stream Protection Rule, a commonsense clean-water regulation; and the BLM Methane and Waste Prevention Rule, which would make our air cleaner by requiring oil and gas operators to reduce wasteful pollution. Their weapon of choice is the Congressional Review Act, a back-door tactic that allows Congress to erase recently finalized protections with little debate and zero public input. Use these forms to email your members of Congress and tell them to oppose any efforts to remove these safeguards:
    From Earthjustice: https://secure.earthjustice.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=1942
    From EDF Action: https://secure2.edf.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=2886
  2. The Dakota Access Pipeline: As of January 1, 2017, the DAPL has been in breach of contract to its oil company clients and the banks who are financing its construction. We can starve the DAPL of the money it needs to survive. Use this form to email Citibank, TD Bank, and Wells Fargo – three of DAPL’s most critical funders – and tell them to pull funding from the pipeline ship now: https://other98action.org/defund-the-dakota-access-pipeline/?link_id=1&can_id=90df5f321fca2c991f46fe40365d958b
  3. Climate Change: With global temperatures nearing a tipping point, it's critical that we act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Sign this letter to Trump telling him to act now to fight climate change: http://www.314action.org/take-action2/2016/11/29/sign-our-letter-to-the-trump-transition
  1. Knowledge is power. Trump's first 10 days in office have been a whirlwind. Things are happening very quickly, and it's easy to get overwhelmed. The Daily WTF helps you stay informed about everything that Trump and his cronies are up to every day. Subscribe here: https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/
  2. Protect reproductive rights. Anti-women's health members of Congress have just announced that they are moving quickly to dismantle President Obama's rule protecting the Title X family planning program. If successful, this would embolden extremist politicians to block people's access to preventive care at a health center just because that center also provides safe, legal abortion. Use this form to email your members of Congress and tell them to protect the Title X family planning program: https://secure.ppaction.org/site/Advocacy;jsessionid=00000000.app259b?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=21271
  3. Protect civil rights. Hours after being sworn in, Trump announced that he’s planning on cutting the funding of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice as a part of a $1 billion cut this fiscal year. This division is responsible for protecting the rights of all Americans, including people of color, women, and people with disabilities. Sign this petition to tell Congress to stand up for civil rights: https://act.colorofchange.org/sign/save-civil-rights-division-stop-trumps-racism-now/
  4. Support the revote. A case for a revote of the US presidential election has made it to the Supreme Court. Revote.info is organizing a candlelight vigil outside the Supreme Court on Sunday, February 19th, and they're asking for help getting the word out to the media. A conference call has been scheduled for Thursday, February 2nd, for anyone interested in helping. To request the call-in information, email contact@revote.info.

Two federal judges have granted injunctions against Trump's unconstitutional Muslim ban. Earlier today, Acting Attorney General Sally Yates told the Justice Department not to defend the ban; she was later fired. A few Democratic members of Congress have announced bills to rescind the ban. We must keep standing up against this unconstitutional executive order in the days to come. Below are some ways you can help.
  1. Donate. Here are some organizations that are fighting Trump's Muslim ban. Make a donation to one or more of them to help with legal costs:
  2. Call your legislators and tell them to oppose the ban. Find your local elected officials at the following link and call them using the script below: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials

Hello, my name is [your name] and I'm a constituent of [rep's name] from [your city, state and ZIP]. I'm calling to ask [rep] to make a public statement denouncing Donald Trump's executive order banning refugees and visitors from Muslim-majority countries from legally entering the United States. The ban unfairly targets people fleeing persecution, legal residents of the US, and others based on their religion -- a violation of one of our country's most sacred principles, religious freedom. Can I count on [rep] to make a statement on this?
  3. Become a citizen co-sponsor of Senator Chris Murphy's bill to overturn the ban by filling out this form: http://action.chrismurphy.com/page/s/ban-bill
  4. Sign this petition from Senator Al Franken to tell Trump to rescind his order: https://www.alfranken.com/landing/e170130/
  5. Sign this petition to tell all Democratic senators to speak out in opposition of the ban: https://act.justicedemocrats.com/nomuslimban/
  6. Oppose the wall. Additionally, Trump still plans to move ahead with his border wall plans. Use this form to email your legislators and tell them to oppose Trump's wall: https://www.afsc.org/action/take-action-to-stop-border-militarization
Notes from Indivisible's Emergency Conference Call Tonight:

I joined in on Indivisible's emergency conference call tonight with the ACLU and various other organizations to discuss Trump's unconstitutional Muslim ban. One important thing that they mentioned is how exactly your senators can fight against Trump's Muslim ban. When you call, email, write, fax, or Tweet them, make sure you tell them to do the following:
  1. Withhold consent. Any single senator can "withhold consent," a procedural maneuver that puts Senate business on pause for days at a time. When Senate leadership asks for "unanimous consent" to move forward with business as usual, your senator should say, "I object." This will dramatically slow Trump’s other priorities from moving forward until he lifts this odious ban.
  2. No justice, no bills. Your senator should commit to filibustering every bill that comes up in the Senate until Trump’s illegal, unconstitutional executive order is rescinded. By filibustering, your senator can stop all of Trump’s future legislative priorities. The only bill that should be allowed to come to a vote is a bill ending the Muslim and refugee ban.
Trump's Nominees:
  1. There has been talk of Senate Democrats filibustering Trump's Supreme Court nominee, but not all of them are on board. Sign these two petitions to tell them not to give in:
  2. The confirmation hearing for Betsy DeVos has been rescheduled for tomorrow. Use this form to email your senators and tell them to vote no on DeVos: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/betsy-devos-is-not-qualified-to-be-secretary-of-education
  3. It seems that Senator Rand Paul is still undecided on DeVos. Use this information to call, email, or Tweet Paul and tell him to oppose DeVos: https://damselsindefiance.org/event/enabling-campaign-rand-paul/
  4. Donald Trump appointed "alt-right" leader, Steve Bannon, as the chief White House strategist and senior counselor. Further, just this last weekend, the New York Times reported that Trump signed an executive order giving Bannon full seat on the ‘principals committee’ of the National Security Council , while downgrading the roles of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence. Sign this petition to tell Trump and Congressional leaders to remove Bannon: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/bannon_trump/
  5. Oppose Jeff Sessions. Here are some actions you can take to help oppose the confirmation of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General:
    • Use this form to call your senators and tell them to oppose Sessions: http://act.freepress.net/call/trump_sessions_ban/

You can also text SESSIONS to 73179 to connect to a member of the Judiciary Committee, or call 877-959-6082 and enter your zip code, then use the following script:

I urge Senator _______ to oppose the nomination of Jeff Sessions to be the next Attorney General. Jeff Sessions cannot be trusted to fairly enforce the law, particularly when it comes to holding anti-abortion extremists accountable for their criminal activities. Sessions is not fit to be Attorney General and I hope I can count on Senator _______ to vote against his nomination.
    • Use this form to email your senators and tell them to oppose Sessions: https://act.hrc.org/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1954&ea.campaign.id=61489
  1. The Congressional Review Act allows Congress to strike down recently issued protections by a simple majority vote in both chambers with limited debate and no possibility of a filibuster. As a result, Americans could lose dozens of health, safety, pocketbook and environmental protections. Even worse, the CRA blocks agencies from issuing "substantially similar" rules without authorization from Congress. Use this form to email your members of Congress and tell them to oppose the Congressional Review Act: http://action.citizen.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=13409
  2. In 2016, the first-ever limits on the dangerous climate pollution that the oil and gas industry is leaking, venting, and flaring on our public and tribal lands were put into place. With one simple vote, Congress could roll back these standards and permanently block the Bureau of Land Management from ever putting these protections into law again without additional congressional action. Use this form to email your members of Congress and tell them to protect us from this assault on public health and environmental safeguards: http://support.edf.org/site/R?i=Px9riklo7Rv5LoPMyyDOJQ

URGENT - Immigration:

Protests are still happening all over the country, as many people are still being detained in airports, or sent back where they came from, despite a federal judge's temporary injunction. We need to keep standing against Trump's Muslim ban. Below are some ways you can get involved.
  1. Join a protest. Several groups and individuals are tracking upcoming protests around the country (including me). Here are some websites where you can find a protest near you:
  2. Show up at the Supreme Court. Today, Christine Pelosi, daughter of Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, Tweeted a document announcing, "Tomorrow at 6:00pm, House and Senate Democrats will gather for a press event in front of the steps of the Supreme Court to demand the president withdraw his disreputable executive order."

The document goes on to say, "This week, Immigration Subcommittee Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren and others will introduce legislation to rescind the Muslim ban, and we are reviewing actions we can take against the president's other immigration executive orders as well. We are also exploring all legal options, including an Amicus Brief in support of the ACLU."

If you live in the area, show up for the press event and showing your support. Otherwise, follow Pelosi on Twitter at @sfpelosi for updates. View the full document here: https://twitter.com/sfpelosi/status/825811074276470784
  3. Call your legislators. This Google Doc lists all US senators and governors along with whether they have spoken out against the Muslim ban or remained silent. It also includes their contact information and a script you can use to call your senators and the governor of your state: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hSGjyWJZIQJpGz4V2ftX_qioCgBtL59oJkkhx146nFE/

  7. If you live in California: Advocates across California are working proactively to protect our civil liberties. Senior Members of the State Legislative Assembly have introduced four key bills that CAIR California are endorsing to safeguard the Muslim community from any possible "registry" and protect vulnerable communities from potentially hostile federal immigration policies from the Trump administration.

With your help, California will set the national standard for what an inclusive and supportive community looks like. Use this form to email state lawmakers and urge them to support critical civil rights protections for all Californians: http://cqrcengage.com/cair/app/write-a-letter
  8. If you're a lawyer who doesn't work for the federal government—especially if you speak Arabic, Farsi, or Kurdish—the International Refugee Assistance Project is taking volunteers to do triage at major airports where refugees, visa holders, and LPRs are detained due to Friday's executive order. 1. Congressional leaders have already started trying to repeal Obamacare. If they're successful, 30 million Americans could lose coverage, and we'll go back to the days when insurance companies could deny coverage due to pre-existing conditions, place caps on care, and charge women more simply for being women. Nightly Actions for Saturday, January 28, 2017

URGENT – Immigration:

Yesterday, Trump signed an executive order banning citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US, including those with valid US visas. Today, refugees, students, and travelers returning home were detained at airports, as protesters gathered to demand that they be released and allowed to remain in the country.

The ACLU immediately filed a lawsuit on behalf of two individuals who were detained in New York City. A federal judge granted their request for a nationwide temporary injunction, which will block deportation of everyone stranded in US airports under the ban.

However, the fight is not over. The injunction is only temporary, and we must keep standing up against Trump's anti-Muslim ban. Below are some ways that you can help.
  1. Join a protest. Earlier today, airport protests were organized all over the country, most notably at JFK Airport in New York City. Several other cities have protests scheduled for the new few days. Here is a comprehensive list: http://getgroundgame.com/airportprotests.html
  2. Call your legislators. Use this form and script to call your local elected officials and demand that they oppose Trump's immigration ban: https://act.mpowerchange.org/call/call-reject-muslim-ban/

You can also find contact information for your local elected officials at the following link, and use the script below, courtesy of Muslim Matters: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent of Representative _______/ Senator _________. I’m calling because I’m concerned about President Donald Trump signing an executive order restricting immigration from Muslim majority countries and ending the Syrian refugee resettlement program. This executive order goes against our shared American values of religious tolerance, diversity, and nondiscrimination.

I’m calling to see if Rep. _________ / Senator ___________ plans to publicly oppose Trump’s decision to sign this executive order?

[If there are any questions, reiterate your concerns.] Yes, please express to Rep. ______/ Sen. ________ that Trump’s executive order doesn’t represent our values, and that I am asking him/her to take a principled, public stand against this kind of intolerance.

    Thanks for your time.
  3. Email your legislators. Use this form to send an email to your local elected officials and tell them to oppose Trump's immigration ban: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-push-back-on-trumps-muslim-ban

The Environment:
  1. On Jan. 24, Trump issued a memorandum calling for the Army Corps of Engineers to ditch the Environmental Impact Statement process and approve the Dakota Access Pipeline. Federal courts have previously ruled that agency decisions cannot be reversed simply because a new president is in power. If Trump’s order is not legally actionable, now through February 20th is the only chance we will have to push for a full review of the pipeline’s climate impacts.

Thursday, Timothy Vail, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works), confirmed that public input is now being accepted. This article outlines how you can submit a public comment against the DAPL: http://www.yesmagazine.org/people-power/dont-let-trump-distract-you-public-comment-on-dapl-is-now-open-20170125
  2. Protesters on the ground at Standing Rock have organized a national conference call to provide some updates on their organizing plans and how allies can help. 2. Steve Bannon, White House Senior Strategist, recently told the media to "shut up," and described them as "the opposition." Send him the text of the First Amendment to remind him how things work in this country.

Step 1 - Write the text of the First Amendment on a postcard:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

  4. Trump's proposed budget cuts are going after funding for Violence Against Women grants, environmental protection, the Paris agreement on climate change, and plans to privatize the Corporation for Public Broadcasting while completely eliminating the National Endowments for the Arts and the Humanities. Sign this petition to tell Democratic Congressional leadership to oppose Trump's cuts: https://act.credoaction.com/sign/trump_cuts
  5. Recently, Trump issued a gag order shutting down the social media pages of several federal agencies. Since then, many of them have created rogue Twitter profiles, which are unaffiliated with any government agency. They're being called the "Twistance" (Twitter + Resistance). If you're on Twitter, consider following them to show your support. You can find a list of them here: https://twitter.com/stollmeyereu/lists/twistance/members
  6. Citing Donald Trump, Carlsbad, NM City Councilor, JR Doporto, used Facebook to issue a warning to women participating in last weekend's marches around the country: "I suggest you stop your bitching/protesting during this time. Because you also have a right to get slapped [sic]"

He also suggests marchers go back to the kitchen: "Just want to give a heads up to the women! You have rights! A right to cook and a right to clean!"

Given the chance to apologize, he told people to ignore his posts then added even more. Sign this petition to tell Councilor JR Doporto that it's time to resign: http://act.progressnownm.org/signup/actionsprout-doporto/

The White House Comment Line:
  1. Earlier this month, the White House took their phone line for comments down, and recorded a voicemail telling people to email them or use Facebook Messenger. A week into Trump’s term, the phone line is still not back up. Click this link to Tweet the White House and tell them to open their comments phone line to the public: https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=The%20%23PublicDemandsAVoice%21%20Tell%20the%20@WhiteHouse%20to%20open%20their%20comments%20phone%20line%20202-465-1111%20to%20the%20public%21%20@POTUS%20@PressSec

Trump's Cabinet Nominees:
  1. Soon, the Senate will vote to confirm Tom Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services. It's important that we keep the pressure on. Price wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, cut Medicaid, end Medicare, and defund Planned Parenthood. Use this form to call key senators and urge them to block Price: https://act.credoaction.com/call/call_block_price/
  2. CNN reported that the most vulnerable of Trump's cabinet picks, Andrew Puzder, is considering bowing out. That's because Puzder, Trump's pick for Labor Secretary, couldn't deny his damning record during his hearing before the Senate. Puzder is the CEO of CKE Restaurants, which owns Carl's Jr. and Hardee's. His restaurants are facing countless complaints for the sexual harassment of two-thirds of their female employees, illegally withholding overtime pay, stolen paychecks, and more. Sign this petition to tell the senate to block Puzder: https://act.weareultraviolet.org/sign/puzder_nomination/
  3. Betsy DeVos is Trump's nominee for Education Secretary. She's totally unqualified, having never worked as a teacher or held any other job in our schools. In her home state of Michigan, she has used her wealth to impose policies of cuts and privatization that The New York Times said led to a "total collapse of public education in Detroit." The vote is coming up on Tuesday, and it's expected to be close.

Democracy for America members recently joined a progressive coalition to demand that senators block Betsy DeVos, Jeff Sessions and Trump's other cabinet picks. More than 600,000 people signed that petition. Now it's time to deliver those signatures to your senators, and tell them that you expect them to oppose Betsy DeVos. Use this form to sign up to deliver signatures to your senators' offices: http://act.democracyforamerica.com/call/stop-devos/
  4. In her confirmation hearing, DeVos refused to commit to upholding Title IX guidance requiring schools to investigate instances of sexual harassment or violence. She was ignorant about federal laws protecting students with disabilities, and has no experience with student loans. We need a secretary of education who’s committed to protecting our students. Sign this petition to tell the Senate not to confirm DeVos: http://petitions.signforgood.com/standagainstdevos
  5. Use this form to send a letter to your legislators and ask them to support the continued delay of the Senate HELP Committee vote and a second hearing on the confirmation of DeVos: http://cqrcengage.com/cek/app/onestep-write-a-letter?1&engagementId=277673
  1. The ACA deadline for 2017 health insurance is January 31st for coverage beginning March 1st. Please tell your friends to enroll if they haven’t. PFLAG is a national partner and leader on urging people to secure health insurance and take advantage of the LGBTQ portal Out2Enroll. You’ll find LGBTQ-specific FAQs, enrollment assistance and other resources. This year, millions of uninsured Americans have incomes that qualify them for reduced monthly costs on high quality plans. In fact, most people eligible for financial help through HealthCare.gov can find plans with monthly costs reduced to $50 - $100. Find more information here: https://out2enroll.org/
  2. The Republican party wants to privatize Medicare, so that you can pay more money to get less care. Sign this petition to get progressive leaders to join Bernie Sanders in his effort to mobilize the country to shoot down this proposal immediately: https://actionsprout.io/AE2012/initial
Planned Parenthood and Women's Rights:
  1. House Speaker Paul Ryan recently confirmed that Republicans in Congress will try to defund Planned Parenthood as part of their repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Republicans have already started the repeal process. They plan to fast track a bill that would dismantle parts of the Affordable Care Act and strip Planned Parenthood of federal funding through a legislative process called "reconciliation." That means the bill can’t be filibustered and just needs a simple majority in the Senate to become law. Sign this petition to tell the Senate not to defund Planned Parenthood: https://act.credoaction.com/sign/protect_pp
  2. Tweet your Women's March photo to your members of Congress and show them you're committed to protecting reproductive health and rights. Use this sample tweet and a handy tool to find your members on Twitter. There's even a photo you can use if you don't have one: http://www.ppaction.org/site/R?i=HgJfQcm_98jTlaRn9zxtug
  3. Use this form and script to call your senators and tell them not to defund Planned Parenthood: https://www.istandwithpp.org/call
  4. Take the Women's Pledge of Unity and pledge to stand up for human rights, dignity and our democracy: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/womens-pledge-of-unity
The Environment:
  1. Trump recently signed executive orders to advance the Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipelines. These dirty and dangerous pipelines are a bad deal for clean air, safe drinking water, and the communities living along the pipeline routes. Sign this petition to tell Trump to rescind his executive orders: https://secure3.convio.net/lcv/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3712&s_src=FB&s_subsrc=KXLDAPL
  2. If your bank is one of the 17 funding the Dakota Access Pipeline, here's how you can contact them and tell them to pull their funding: http://www.yesmagazine.org/people-power/how-to-contact-the-17-banks-funding-the-dakota-access-pipeline-20160929
  3. Trump campaigned for president on a promise to obstruct and derail action on climate change at every level. And, so far, his administration is doing just that. From cabinet picks to policy statements (or tweets), it’s clear the Trump Administration’s goal is to undermine progress on climate change. Protecting the Paris Agreement is a critical first step to make sure that doesn't happen. Use this form to email your members of Congress and tell them to protec the commitments made under the Paris Agreement: https://secure3.convio.net/gpeace/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=2061
  4. We have an "environmental voter turnout problem" in the United States. The people who care most about climate change and other environmental issues don't vote. In fact, 15.78 million environmentalists didn't vote in the 2014 midterm elections, and an estimated over 10 million didn't vote in the 2016 presidential election. Take this pledge to help you show up to every single election - local, state, and federal: http://www.environmentalvoter.org/blog/care-about-environment-heres-what-you-can-do-right-now
Trump's Tax Returns:
  1. The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution. Sign this petition to tell Trump to immediately release his tax returns: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/immediately-release-donald-trumps-full-tax-returns-all-information-needed-verify-emoluments-clause-compliance
  2. Tax Marches are being planned all over the country. Visit this website to find a march near you and send a message to Trump to release his tax returns: https://taxmarch.org/
Federal Agencies and Public Lands:
  1. Mere days into Donald Trump's presidency, multiple agencies have been banned from speaking to the press, public officials, even the public. Sign this petition to demand that your members of Congress force the administration's hand and rescind Trump's gag orders: https://www.addup.org/campaigns/lift-trumps-gag-orders-on-federal-agencies/petition/defend-federal-workers-from-congressional-retaliation
  2. For a growing list of alternative Twitter accounts for the federal government entities that have had gag rules imposed on them, click here: http://www.wearetraversecity.com/node/56
  3. One of the top priorities in the GOP is selling off our public lands to the highest bidder. We need to stand up and send a clear message that our public lands are NOT for sale. Sign this petition to tell Congress to keep their hands off: http://nm.martinheinrich.com/page/s/fb-protect-public-lands
  1. Trump's executive order to take federal funding away from cities that protect immigrant families is shameful and violates the Constitution. Sign this petition to tell Trump to rescind this executive order immediately: https://my.democrats.org/page/s/stand-with-immigrant-families
  2. On Dec 3rd 2013, Resolution 1008-13 was submitted to the Miami Dade County, Florida Commission by County Attorney R.A. Cuevas Jr. asking for elected leadership to honor the spirit of sanctuary in Miami. Today, Miami Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez has ordered Miami Dade county jails to comply with federal immigration detention requests, which would change the county’s position as a sanctuary for immigrants to comply with Trump’s executive order. Sign this petition to let Mayor Gimenez know that you oppose the executive order on immigration enforcement: https://www.change.org/p/emergeusa-call-on-miami-dade-mayor-gimeniz-to-keep-city-s-sanctuary-status
  3. Trump just signed an executive order that will grind refugee resettlement to a halt. To make matters worse, the order discriminates against Muslim immigrants, and will prevent all but a handful of people from Syria, the world's largest refugee population, from entering the US. Use this form to send a letter to Trump and tell him that you oppose his decision to slash refugee resettlement and that you support welcoming people of all faiths to our country: https://secure3.oxfamamerica.org/page/speakout/stand-with-refugees
  4. Join the postcard avalanche. Write and mail one postcard to the following address with the message: "I will NOT pay for YOUR wall. PERIOD."

    Donald J. Trump
    C/O The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
    Washington, DC 20500
  1. Trump refuses to cut ties with his international business interests that pose serious conflicts of interest. He's even refusing to liquidate foreign holdings, which places him in violation of the United States Constitution. So Democrats, led by Senator Warren, have introduced the Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act of 2017, which would force Trump to divest. Sign this petition to support this bill and resist corruption: http://act.standupamerica.com/page/s/stand-up-to-trump-corruption
  2. Combat fake news. Work with Sleeping Giants to hold companies accountable for advertising on fake news sites. Read this document to get started: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14xnkluiAdVqT-KmwcZRJs4U0wia9TIBRzPaUaGVCqRU/
  3. This week, Senator Dianne Feinstein announced to the world that the Women’s March changed everything. She made sure that the vote to confirm Jeff Sessions for Attorney General is not rushed through, and she said that the march inspired her to stand up to Trump’s extreme agenda. This is the type of leadership that we need in Congress. Now, we need to make sure other Senators exhibit the same resistance. As the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Chuck Schumer could help make that happen, but the initial signs are not good. He himself voted for pro-torture Representative Mike Pompeo to lead the CIA. Use this form to email Senator Schumer and tell him that you expect more from him: http://action.foe.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=20974
  4. After the Pulse massacre in Orlando, Trump bragged about being "right" instead of offering condolences. We can’t trust him to protect us from gun violence, and his party has made it clear that they are more interested in serving the NRA than the American people. Sign this petition to stand up to gun violence: http://www.grassrootsact.com/vf-fb-violence
  5. Use this website to make five calls to your senators about important issues: https://5calls.org/
  6. Trump is an unprecedented threat to our nation's democracy, health and environment. He must not be allowed to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency, gut the Clean Air and Endangered Species acts, raid our public lands, eliminate regulations protecting poor communities from pollution, deport millions of people, take away our reproductive freedom, or force millions to live in fear. Take this pledge to resist Trump's assault on America's environment, democracy, and civil rights: http://action.biologicaldiversity.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=17524
  7. Civil disobedience is the breach of law in order to change culture and policy. Nonviolent civil disobedience is grounded in the ethic of love - for others, opponents, and ourselves. Historically, when people use civil disobedience to protest not just a single policy but widespread injustice, then this act of love becomes revolutionary. It changes a community, a culture, even a country. Take this pledge to support civil disobedience against the Trump administration: https://action.groundswell-mvmt.org/petitions/we-support-civil-disobedience-as-a-form-of-moralresistance
  8. In 1982, Carole King released the song, "One Small Voice." It was a subtle anthem about standing up to power, and its lyrics are unfortunately applicable to our current historical moment. King re-recorded the track a few decades after its original release. She remembered the second version she made while preparing to participate in the local branch of the woman’s march this past weekend, and is now releasing it for the first time. Listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaPYz-6Bji4
  9. The Virginia House of Delegates committee on elections is today hearing recommendations on a bill to strip Virginia voters of one person-one vote. The bill, HB 1425, would take Virginia from a winner take all electoral vote in Presidential elections to dividing up the electors by (already gerrymandered) Congressional districts. Next Monday, a committee in the Virginia House of Delegates will vote on two bills, HJ 763 and HJ 581, which are amendments designed to make it unconstitutional under Virginia law to draw districts that favor one party.

If you live in Virginia, please call the committee members at the phone numbers below and let them know that a) you strongly oppose HB 1425, b) you strongly support a nonpartisan redistricting commission, and c) you support HB 763 and/or HB 581 in the interim:
    • Steve Landes (R), sponsor of HJ 763 (804) 698-1025
    • Rip Sullivan (D), sponsor of HJ 581 (804)698-1048
    • J Randall Minchew (10th district) (804) 698-1010
    • Jackson Miller (50th district) (804) 698-1050
    • Timothy Hugo (40th district) (804) 698-1040
    • Jason Miyares (82nd district) (804) 698-1082
    • Joseph Lindsey (90th district) (804) 698-1090
    • Marcia Price (95th district) (804) 698-1095
    • Mark Cole (88th district) (804) 698-1088

Here's a script you can use when you call:
Hi, my name is _____. I’m a resident of _____. [I know I’m not in your district, but…] I’m calling to express anger and disapproval of HB1425. We have a right to one person one vote, and this would violate that. I also ask you to support one of the two constitutional amendments to draw districts without favoring any party or legislator. While I would like to see a nonpartisan redistricting commission, I believe that these bills at least represent an improvement to Virginia’s current districting rules. Also, I’d like to get more information on these bills if you have it, in particular, I’d like to know how they will be implemented and how it will be determined whether a district favors or disfavors a party or legislator? Thank you for your time!

Nightly Actions for Thursday, January 26, 2017

  1. The Resistance Manual is a great resource for ways that you can fight back against the Trump Administration. Check it out here: https://www.resistancemanual.org/Resistance_Manual_Home
  2. The GOP plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act will have disastrous consequences for millions of Americans. Sign this petition to stand with Democrats across the country and say you'll fight to protect access to affordable health care: http://my.democrats.org/page/s/save-the-affordable-care-act
  3. Republicans in Congress plan to ram through a budget bill that could gut Medicare and Medicaid, increase prescription drug prices and take away health coverage for over 30 million Americans – all while providing billions of dollars in tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. We must stand together against the GOP’s radical agenda to strip health care from millions. Sign this petition to tell the GOP not to gut our healthcare: http://petitions.signforgood.com/OurHealthCare
  4. Trump just began his war against immigrants, refugees, and Muslims. Strongly reject his executive actions on immigration and refugees. Tell your local mayor to make your city a sanctuary city (or if your city is already a sanctuary city, tell them that you support their decision). Use this form to find a campaign in your areahttps://action.mijente.net/efforts/tell-your-mayor-to-defy-trump-expand-sanctuary/targets/by_location
  5. Trump may ban vast numbers of people from coming to America because of their religion. Sign this petition if you still believe in the core American ideal of welcoming those escaping violence or hoping to make better lives for themselves here: http://action.citizen.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=13402
  6. Yesterday, Trump signed an executive order to start construction of his border wall, and he wants us to pay for it. Sign this petition to tell Trump that not one dollar of our taxes will be spent on his offensive, ineffective wall: http://my.democrats.org/page/s/tell-trump-not-my-taxes
  7. Just this week, Trump signed executive orders that are the opposite of our nation’s history and vision for the future. Trump is advancing orders for banning immigrants, and discriminating against people of the Muslim faith. Click the following link to send a mini Statue of Liberty to one of the Trump Towers in order to let Donald Trump know that liberty and justice for all means all: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/Immigration_Ban/
  8. Trump took aim at cities where local leaders refuse to hand over immigrants for deportation, and he is poised to ban Muslims and Syrian refugees from coming to the U.S. Sign this petition to take a stand against Trump's anti-Muslim agenda: http://action.foe.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/
  9. Stopping refugee resettlement, for any period of time for any group of people, would undermine our nation’s founding principles of being a beacon of freedom and hope. An announcement restricting access to resettlement from primarily Muslim countries is tantamount to the Muslim ban that President Trump threatened during his campaign. This is a clear case of discrimination based on religion and nationality and must be decried as such. Sign this petition to tell Trump not to stop refugee settlement in the United States: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/do-not-stop-refugee-resettle
  10. Trump just instituted a gag order to all employees in the Environmental Protection Agency and the USDA, however, public outcry reversed that decision for the USDA. That means scientists are barred from communicating with the public about taxpayer-funded work. Sign this petition to demand that the gag rule be revoked: http://action.dccc.org/petition/trump-epa
  11. Trump’s gag rule on many government agencies has cause them to create unofficial Twitter accounts so that they can still fulfill their responsibility of getting information to us taxpayers.  Please consider following them to support them and to keep informed: @AltForestServ @AltNatParkSer @Alt_NASA @RogueNASA @altUSEPA @Alt_CDC @AltHHS @alt_fda @Alt_NIH @altusda
  12. Attorney General nominee, Jeff Sessions, reportedly played a key advisory role in shaping these Trump policy positions, but the Senate Judiciary Committee didn’t know about these executive orders at Sessions’ confirmation hearing on January 10th, so they didn’t get to ask him any questions. Call Senate Judiciary Committee chair Chuck Grassley and demand a second confirmation hearing for Sessions: https://www.aclu.org/feature/ask-sessions-more-questions
  13. Use the talking points and phone number on this page to call your senators and tell them to vote no on Jeff Sessions: http://act.commoncause.org/site/R?i=NsVIQkHm4qdcDfxf2-fFcQ
  14. Trump has chosen one of net neutrality’s harshest critics to head the FCC. Ajit Pai, a Republican FCC commissioner since 2012, once said he’d take a “weed whacker” to FCC rules, which include net neutrality. As head of the FCC, Pai could whack net neutrality protections right out of existence. Sign this petition to help protect it: https://www.alfranken.com/landing/e170126/
  15. Join CREDO on Facebook live tomorrow at 1:30pm ET/10:30am PT to watch CREDO members and progressive champion Sen. Jeff Merkley take a public stand against billionaire bigot Betsy DeVos’ nomination as secretary of education. Like CREDO on Facebook to be notified when the event goes live: https://www.facebook.com/CREDO
  16. Beginning next week, the U.S. Senate will start voting on Trump’s cabinet nominees. These nominees represent and promote hateful ideals and policies that are harmful for our children and our economy. Sign this petition to tell the Senate to vote against Trump's proposed cabinet nominees: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/put-stop-cabinet-of-bigotry/
  17. Newly sworn in South Carolina governor Henry McMaster recently announced plans to keep his membership at an all-white country club. Bigotry and discrimination should have no place in our politics, no matter who’s in the White House. Sign this petition to take a stand against racism and tell Gov. McMaster to cancel his membership at an all-white club: http://petitions.signforgood.com/TrumpRacism/
  18. We're only on day 7 of Trump's administration and he's already taken sweeping action to restrict abortion, attack immigrants, start his plans to ban Muslims, and even silence federal agencies. Democrats have responded by letting Trump's cabinet sail through. 15 Senate Democrats voted for Trump's pro-torture CIA pick, Mike Pompeo, and yesterday, two true progressive champions voted in favor of Ben Carson to run the federal housing agency.

Now, with just days to go before Trump names his nominee for the Supreme Court, it's time to send a clear message. Sign this petition to tell the Democrats in Congress that we need them to fight A LOT harder to stop Trump and his hate filled agenda: https://act.weareultraviolet.org/sign/democrats_resist/
  19. Police at Standing Rock renewed their violent campaign against DAPL Water Protectors. Sign this petition to demand that CNN, NBC and CBS end the media blackout of how activists are still being treated by law enforcement protecting the interests of DAPL: https://actionsprout.io/1F429D/initial
  20. Right now, 90 percent of elections are determined in the primary, the outcomes of which are dictated only by the hyper-partisan few, in states with closed primaries. We need more democracy, not less. Yet the candidates for Democratic Party chair are ignoring the calls of their own base for reform. Sign this petition to tell the incoming chairs of the DNC and RNC to open the primaries now: http://www.openprimaries.org/unrig-it-2020
  21. In his second official press briefing as Trump's press secretary, Sean Spicer stated that Donald Trump firmly believes that between 3 and 5 million people voted illegally in the presidential election "based on studies and information that he has," but he refused to provide even a shred of evidence to suggest that that is true. This comes on the heels of an emergency press conference Spicer called on Saturday in order to lie and gaslight the American public about how many people attended the inauguration.

On Saturday, CNN decided to tape Spicer's fact-free press conference instead of airing it live, and when they did go back and air parts of it, they were able to fact check it in real time, giving the public the tools we need to fight Trump's lies. CNN made the right call on Saturday. Now, we need more media outlets to follow suit. Sign this petition and tell the networks to stop airing the Trump administration's press briefings live: http://act.democracyforamerica.com/sign/trump_press_briefings
  22. Trump is calling for a witch hunt into alleged “voter fraud” in the last election based on a lie he has been telling, with no evidence at all, that millions of people voted illegally. He says the investigation lead to changes in “voting procedures.” This is part of an attempt by Trump and his right-wing allies to build a massive voter suppression regime in advance of future elections. If anything had an impact on the last election, it was targeted voter suppression, not mythical widespread individual voter fraud, which has been found over and over again not to exist. Sign this petition to tell members of Congress and other public officials to stand against this witch hunt and investigate the real problem of voter suppression instead: https://secure.pfaw.org/site/SPageNavigator/action.html?survey_id=11743
  23. Donald Trump's false claims of voter fraud are a pretext for new restrictions on voting. Sign this petition to stand with Democrats across the country and say you'll fight to protect voting rights for every American: http://my.democrats.org/page/s/protect-our-voting-rights
  24. The Trump administration is pushing a plan to privatize the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which would axe funding for hundreds of local NPR and PBS stations around the country. Sign this petition to urge Congress to stop Trump’s plan to destroy public media: http://act.freepress.net/sign/trump_public_media
  25. Americans are no longer able to call the White House directly. The comment line (202-456-1111) that used to be open to the public is now “currently closed,” per the automated recording you hear when you call. White House Inc. connects you to Trump in a different way: by calling his businesses. Just enter your phone number and email address at this website, and you’ll receive a call that connects you to a Trump business: https://whitehouseinc.org/
  26. Paul Ryan had his phones cut off because of the volume of calls, but he can still receive faxes. There is now a Twitter call for people to have a #PaulRyanFaxParty. Fax a letter to Ryan at this number: (202) 225-3393
  27. Trump needs to get the message from the majority of Americans that we value and need the benefits of the ACA. Let’s show him how many of us feel that way. Send a postcard or letter to Donald Trump with the simple message: “Don’t make America sick again. Improve the ACA. Don’t repeal it.” Send your postcard to:

    1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
    Washington, DC  20500.
  28. Since Kellyanne Conway called the marches on Saturday "pointless, it might be helpful to send Kellyanne a note or postcard of "I marched because..." It may not change her mind, but she needs exposure to a broader perspective. Send your note to:

    Attn: Kellyanne Conway
    C/O The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW

Nightly Actions for Wednesday, January 25, 2017

  1. In a pair of tweets early this morning, Trump said:
"I will be asking for a major investigation into VOTER FRAUD, including those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and....even, those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time). Depending on results, we will strengthen up voting procedures!"
Sign this petition to members of Congress and all public officials to let them know if there is an investigation into voting in the last election it should be an investigation into VOTER SUPPRESSION, not baseless allegations of “fraud”: http://site.pfaw.org/site/R?i=rewWFDGKhLrjGexi3ghcww
  2. This afternoon, President Trump signed two executive orders that directly attack our immigrant and refugee communities. The executive orders will further militarize the border, increase deportations of undocumented immigrants, seek to end sanctuary cities, turn our backs on Central American children fleeing violence allowed into the US, and direct the Department of Homeland Security to build an unnecessary and costly border wall. Sign this petition to tell Speaker Ryan to stand up in support of immigrant families and oppose President Trump’s executive orders: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/f80dafaad566d7bf195e54c5406499cc88489f41
  3. This week, Donald Trump is expected to sign executive orders blocking refugees from seeking safety and restricting immigration from Muslim countries—the beginnings of a Muslim ban. The administration has backpedaled on Trump's call for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States." Donald Trump can act alone with his executive orders, but that doesn't mean Congress is voiceless. Sign this petition to call on members of Congress to go on the record and vocally reject Trump's Muslim ban: https://act.mpowerchange.org/sign/reject-muslim-ban/?t=1&akid=113.104910.CJRIEO
  4. Sign this petition to tell the Trump administration that walls, bans, and divisive politics don't represent us: https://www.ofa.us/stand-up-for-american-values/
  5. Take action in your area. Connect with local activist groups with Stay Nasty America: http://staynastyamerica.strikingly.com/
  6. Trump will soon announce his nominee for the stolen Supreme Court seat, from a group hand-picked by conservative extremists. He’s set to select someone who will turn back the clock to the 19th century. Use this form and script to call your senators and tell them that if they don’t oppose dangerous nominees, we will hold them accountable at the ballot box: http://www.weekly-resistance.online/
  7. Trump has come out of the gate confirming that he is indeed a threat to our climate. But these pipelines are far from being a done deal. The Keystone XL pipeline was rejected because it was determined not to be in the country's best interest, and the environmental review of the Dakota Access Pipeline was ordered because of the threats it poses to the Standing Rock Sioux's water supply. Show President Trump that we will continue to fight these pipelines every step of the way:

Send him a Tweet here: https://www.addup.org/campaigns/fight-back-trump-approved-keystone-xl-and-the-dakota-access-pipeline/tweet/1-24-17-kxl-rapid-response-tweet

Sign this petition to the White House: https://www.addup.org/campaigns/fight-back-trump-approved-keystone-xl-and-the-dakota-access-pipeline/petition/fight-back-trump-approved-keystone-xl-and-the-dakota-access-pipeline
  8. Use this form to email Trump and tell him that you firmly oppose his efforts to revive the Keystone XL pipeline and fast track the Dakota Access pipeline: http://www.nrdconline.org/site/R?i=UXKE19JTEvGi0BCdpSpTyA
  9. The Sierra Club is organizing The People's Climate March on April 29 in Washington, DC. If you can make it, RSVP here: https://sierraclub.tfaforms.net/126?data=817abf33b0617305af4ef88348e9c06ba93094752056d57edd6dcea5f4cb76ab811066e58032d8e664de4e22fe2cfd97&id=70131000001DmnNAAS
  10. Call your senators and tell them to reject Trump's appointment of notorious "foreclosure king," Steve Mnuchin. Enter your phone number into this form to be connected to the Senate and use the call script to make your call: https://blocktrumpscabinet.com/mnuchin
  11. Betsy DeVos, Trump’s candidate for Secretary of Education, is spectacularly unqualified. At her first nomination hearing, she was unable to answer basic questions about education policy, but did announce her opinion that people should be allowed to bring guns into schools because of grizzly bear attacks. She also has an enormous potential for financial conflicts of interest, with 102 problematic conflicts already identified.

Her hearing has been postponed to wrap up on January 31st. Call your senators and tell them that Betsy DeVos absolutely must not be confirmed at Secretary of Education.

Find the number for your senator here: https://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm?OrderBy=state

Call during business hours and use the following example script:
Hello. My name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent of [Senator____]. I’m calling because I’m concerned about the nomination of Betty DeVos as Education Secretary.

It is clear that Devos has a severe lack of knowledge in America’s public school systems or any viable plan for how to improve them. The majority of America’s  school children attend public schools. We cannot leave their futures and the future of our country in the hands of a woman whose ideas to privatize school funding have already left the state of Michigan and its children in shambles.  Her financial conflicts of interest are also staggering.

I urge [Senator  __] to use his/her voice in Congress over the coming week to make clear that Betty DeVos should not be confirmed, and that President Trump should nominate a new, more qualified person for the position of Education Secretary. The future of our country is depending on our vote. Thank you for your time.
  12. Use this form to email your senators and tell them to oppose DeVos: http://salsa4.salsalabs.com/o/50796/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=20683
  13. Trump has just named Ajit Pai as FCC chairman. Pai has a history of siding against net neutrality. Use this script to call Chairman Pai and urge him to protect net neutrality and support our online rights: http://act.freepress.net/call/internet_pai_nn/
